Director

Marta Boscolo Marchi

Marta Boscolo Marchi trained at the Universities of Bologna and Padua. An art historian and official of the Ministry of Culture since 2012, she is currently the director of the Museum of Oriental Art in Venice and head of the historical archive of the Regional National Museums Office of Veneto region. She was a contract lecturer at the University of Padua from 2017 to 2022 for the Course in History and Techniques of Restoration.

Her research, supported by periods of study and activity abroad, is divided between issues of critical reception of Far Eastern art in Italy, the conservation of cultural heritage, and medieval art, with particular attention to the architecture and sculpture of the Padua area. Along these lines, she has investigated the issues surrounding the intersection of Adriatic and transalpine workshops, dedicating a substantial monograph to the history of Ferrara Cathedral in the medieval period.

The lively restoration activity promoted at the Museum and beyond has allowed her to devote herself to the history of restoration and heritage protection, supporting fieldwork with the study of sources and the analysis of issues related to techniques and restoration theory. She has also deepened her study of prominent figures in conservation between the two World Wars on the occasion of specific conferences.
